During the session, we covered the following:

News Topics:

  • Facebook is testing a new way for businesses to tag products
    • Experimenting with letting page owners tag actual products in their photos, videos, and other posts
    • When a product is tagged in a page’s post, anyone can tap on it to open a dedicated page from that page where they can learn more information
  • YouTube TV Arrives to Take on Hulu, Netflix and Traditional Pay Television
    • About 40 networks onboard to stream their live broadcasts and cable feeds to its subscribers
    • $35 for the “over the top” service, which will include all the major broadcast networks and cable channels such as ESPN, Disney and FXX
    • YouTube also is competing to some degree with Facebook and Twitter, which have TV apps but not as many content deals
  • Facebook Algorithm Ranks Reactions Higher Than Likes
    • Five cutesy reactions arrived a year ago to be an option to the “Like”
    • Reactions are “an even stronger signal” that you want to see a post than a Like
    • Reactions will affect post ranking slightly more than Likes
  • Twitter Safety Rolls Out Auto-mute Feature and Other Updates
    • Twitter’s new technology aims to “reduce abusive content” and give users “more tools to control [their] experience” on the platform
      • How you can report abusive Tweets
      • Stopping the creation of new abusive accounts
      • Implementing safer search results
      • Collapsing abusive or low-quality Tweets
      • Reducing notifications from conversations started by people you’ve blocked or muted
